Google is making their third attempt to infiltrate the social networking websites with the introduction of Google Plus (Google+). Furthermore, they are restricting access to just those that received an initial invitation from Google or an invitation from current members - thus making this a very exclusive club. On top of that, not everyone that receives an invitation will be able to get in right away, as they are limiting the number of new members to just a few per hour. All of sudden, people are falling over themselves trying to join (similar to the South Park episode where Cartman buys an amusement park and advertises that nobody is allowed to come into his park).
Now, I'm not on Facebook or participate on Twitter, but I was just curious to see what Google plus was all about. I received an invitation from a colleague and looked around a bit. I do see how the features can be helpful, but so far, I'm not overly impressed. But perhaps they are still working out the kinks - hence the limited access.
My main reason for joining is because I already have a gmail account, fully utilize their free photo (Picasa Web Album) and video (YouTube) storage site, and I enjoy using iGoogle (contains a great Scrabble app).
Has anyone else joined, and what are your impressions?
