Just curious to see if anyone actually goes out of their way to use their grocery store points towards gas discounts?
For example, in Maryland, Shell and Giant teamed up so that for every $100 you spend at the Giant, you get 10cents off per gallon at Shell gas stations. The hitch is that those points can only be redeemed in multiples of 100 and expire after 30 days. Also, Shell gas prices are typically 5-7cents higher than other stations.
My typical fill-up is 15 gallons, so even on a day where I get 20cents off per gallon, I save just $3.00. Given that I fill-up about once every 10 days, that's a savings of about $100/year. Not a whole lot, but better than nothing.
I still think this is a good idea - and a great way for folks to save money on two necessities, but is that really worth going out of my way for?
