Hi jaker023. This should be posted via the seed function, rather than the post article function.

I tried to seed it, but for whatever reason, the system hung up on the seeding. plus, I cannot insert a poll with seeds.

Aha. I didn't notice the poll at first.

My guess is this absence (lack of recognition) is due to the sheer volume of users and vast amount of dollars generated by Facebook and others. I don't use them. All of my family and friends do. I like and use Newsvine because I can generate my own articles and read other originally written articles. This isn't the case with the major social media. Newsvine is a totally different social environment. Although it can get a little raunchy here on the vine, it doesn't compare with what sometimes happen on Facebook, Twitter, and elsewhere. I prefer my raunchiness with rules (CoH) that are reasonably enforced.

I agree Facebook just doesn't do it for me and if I do use it it is more for contacting friends than posting comments for me.

Though I do find it strange that we aren't as publicly known as Digg. The one difference between NV and Digg of course is Digg doesn't allow posting personal articles.

agreed. I really enjoy newsvine - seems like a much more "sophisticated" crowd (when compared to FB/twitter).

just wish we could generate more traffic here. of course, the downside with more traffic is that we'll get more trolls

The good news about that is more guides and NV HQ people to talk to so we don't rely on two people.

I've seen a similar article that didn't mention Newsvine. Honestly, I'm glad. I hate FB and Twitter. Although these sites are for some, they're also not for others. NV is a social media but not in the same sense as the others, at least I don't think so.

Newsvine is geared toward a lot of people who are interested in the news and want to learn, IMO of course. Although we get people in here who run around as if NV were a second FB and who just chat away as if it were a version of twitter, I'm glad NV isn't listed in the same groups online.

And yeah, I like the CoH even though I don't think they're always fair. There seems to be very little if any moderation on FB and Twitter.

right, NV is more a fair forum for discussion. and it's normally better than the comments seen on CNN.com, where ever other comment reads "your an idiot" (with that spelling too).

There are enough aholes on NV as it is. To invite the twitterverse would be the destruction of this fine site. I agree with Darrah, how could you possibly be able to moderate it ?

I see FB and other sites are for family, friends and game playing. Not a bad thing. NV is something else; people are connect by what common interests they have which doesn't always line up along familiy lines or what high school you went to.

well, my concern is that there is a lot of good content written here that should get better notoriety, but b/c NV is so in the dark, it's not reaching the masses. perhaps if MSNBC promoted it better....

I've never been on Facebook or Twitter. I prefer Newsvine. People have issues with each other on here, but mostly the moderators will step in and handle it. When you have many different opinions, naturally things sometimes get a bit overheated. The things I hear about Facebook, etc., keep me away.

I voted "other" because I thought the goal was to have something 'different' to offer. They were wanting a debate site more than a social site, with the debate to be something better than what Digg and others offer.

Everyone wants to be #1... don't know that Digg is the standard, but they don't offer anything different from the rest of the debate sites; Nv does.

Who cares? ..Ewe dew! That's why you asked! :P

never really heard of Digg (aside from CNN).

I don't think that NV wants to be #1, or really any desire to be in the top 50.

but I agree, NV offers the best of them in terms of writing/publishing tools.

I have tried WordPress and Yahoo Contributor, but they pale in comparison to NV.

(As an aside, BD and I were just teasing each other. Good to make a disclaimer, since you don't know that we are on each other's list and have exchanged quite a bit:)

I agree that Nv might not care about being #1 now (to the same degree that they might have when they were independent). According to one of the Founders, they were wanting to base the site on something "different and unique" that the others weren't doing. I've never used Digg, and only learned of it from that same 'Founder' that made the statement I referenced.

understood. don't know who that founder is, but they certainly accomplished that goal, and should be proud.
